For any test you should be told at the time how long it will be before the results are ready. Please only contact the surgery after that time has passed. It is your responsibility to check your test results either online (e.g. in the NHS app) or by contacting the practice.
Please note that we do have a strict policy regarding confidentiality and data protection. As such we will only give results to the patient, unless you have given us permission to discuss results with another person. If you call the practice for the results our reception team will check some details with you to confirm your identity.
You will be asked for some personal details when calling, this is to confirm your identity. The receptionist has the right to refuse the release of medical information if he/she feels that it does not pertain to the person calling. We hope that our patients find our high standards of confidentiality satisfactory with regard to releasing this type of information.
If the test was arranged by another clinic / hosipital
If your test has been carried out at a Clinic or Hospital please contact them for the results. If they will tell you if the results will be sent to your GP we would advise that you request the results should go to the specialist who arranged them as they would be in a better position to provide advice based on the test results.
Laboratory tests guide
Lab Tests Online provides a good guide on the different tests and what the results mean.
Specimens
All specimens must be provided in a suitable container and marked clearly with name, date of birth, date provided and reason for the specimen.
Failure to do so may mean that the test will need to be repeated – Please note that when bringing in a sample to the surgery, only samples in the correct container can be accepted. These are available from reception.
